Our mission is to travel to South Africa in attempts to share the love our father has put into our hearts. We will work with orphans and Aids victims through a wonderful center called Ithemba. Here we will be able to connect with the kids and show them they have not been forgotten. We will spend our days playing with them and loving them just like Jesus has taught us too. We will also be working to film some of the devastation and poverty left from the Apartheid in South Africa, as well as the rising AIDS epidemic throughout Africa so that we can be the voice of a people who have been silenced for far too long.

If you would like to help us by donating from what God has blessed you with, click on the "donate" link under the video to the right of the page. From there you will find out the many ways you can help support our trip and the kids at Ithemba.

I thank all of you for your interest in this cause and I pray that God burdens your heart for the plight of these children of God.

In Him,
Michael Tyree

Assignment #2 October 17, 2010 - Private School Missionaries

Write a one page research paragraph on Nelson Mandela.

6 comments:

  1. Nelson Mandela was born July 18, 1918 into the royal Khoisan family on his mother’s side which negated him from any claim to the Thembu dynasty throne of South Africa. His parents named him Rolihlahla meaning troublemaker, but his English teacher gave him the name Nelson. Rolihlahla seems fitting considering Fort Hare University asked him to leave for his defiance against the school’s policies, and later, ran away to Johannesburg from his guardian in protest to an unfavorable arranged marriage. This troublemaking characteristic would later support his passion to end apartheid in South Africa and land him in prison for 27 years. On his prison release in 1990, he began his fight for multi-racial elections which earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. In 1994 Mandela became South Africa’s first black president and the whole world knew his name.

  2. Nelson Mandela was born in Mvezo on July 18, 1918. He belongs to a cadet branch of the Thembu dynasty; however, his Khoisan ancesty from his mother's side prevented him from succeeding to the Thembu throne. Nelson's given name, Rolihlahla, means troublemaker. He was the first member of his family to attend school, and here his teacher, Miss Mdingane, gave him the name, Nelson. After college, Nelson moved to Johannesburg. After the 1948 election victory of the National party which heavily supported apartheid (legal segregation), Mandela became very involved in politics. In 1955, he was a major leader in the Congress of the People whose adoption of the Freedom Charter provided the fundamental basis of the anti-apartheid cause. In 1962, Nelson was arrested. Two years later, he was sentenced to life in prison in the Rivonia trial. Nelson spent 27 years in imprisonment. While in prison, Nelson's reputation grew, and he became known as one of the most prominent black leaders in South Africa. When the president of South Africa suffered a stroke, the new president, Frederik Willem de Clerk, granted Mandela freedom in February 1990. In 1993, Nelson earned the Nobel Peace Prize for his work negotiating with the National Party. On April 27, 1994, South Africa held its first multi-racial election. Mandela won 62% of the votes and became South Africa's first black President.

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
